Share your brilliant story + expertise with a professionally edited book!
I am obsessed with books and words, and I want to help you get your work out into the world, free from errors. As a certified editor, I help you clean up your document and correct any issues in punctuation, spelling, grammar, and jargon, so you can share your work with confidence.
Unfortunately, no matter how wonderful and inspirational your book idea is, your reader won't bother finishing it if it's full mistakes, and you won't be viewed as an expert with knowledge and value to share.
My goal is to bridge the gap between the writer (you) and the reader (your audience) so that you can ensure your message is clear and easy to understand. See below for more info.
**All editorial projects include a complimentary Zoom call to discuss feedback and next steps.

EDITING SERVICES
MANUSCRIPT EVALUATION / DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING
Get a big-picture analysis, and specific and actionable feedback on ideas, tone, structure, and flow as well as any style, grammatical, punctuation, and consistency related habits that may need addressing, so you can become a better writer. A manuscript evaluation will provide you with select, illustrative examples. A developmental edit provides you with in-depth, comprehensive notes. The evaluation makes suggestions for improvement in a broad way; a developmental edit offers specific changes in each instance.
Includes:
- Written editorial report
- Comments on your document via Microsoft Track Changes.
COPY EDITING
The tasks involved in copy editing include checking written material for grammar, spelling, style, and punctuation issues before it’s prepared for proofreading. This may also include stylistic changes, if necessary, to fix any problems with transitions, wordiness, jargon, consistency, and to ensure the style of the piece fits with the publication. Copy editing takes place after a developmental/content edit and before proofreading. Copy editing is right for you if you have finished your manuscript and you're confident it has little to no organizational issues.
- Editing for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage
- Consistency of capitalization and hyphenation
- Proper word usage
- Repetitive or missing words
- Awkward, wordy, or redundant sentences
- Formatting issues with font size, style, and layout
- Editing tables, figures, and lists
- Basic fact-checking, including anachronisms, names, places, and relationships
- Flagging for legal, copyright, privacy, or ethical issues (Note: I am not a lawyer, but can address potential problems)
- Correcting or querying general information that may be confusing or should be checked for accuracy
- American or Canadian English
- Adherence to current style manuals (Chicago Manual of Style, Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary and more)
- Point of view inconsistencies
- You will receive a completed style sheet, or I can follow one that is provided
PROOFREADING
Proofreading is the final quality check in the editorial process. This step is about checking for minor text, typos, grammatical, and formatting errors. Proofreading is right for you if your manuscript has been formatted and you're ready to send your manuscript off to be published.
- Checking for spelling, punctuation, grammar, or deviations from the style sheet
- Consistency and accuracy of elements (cross-references, table of contents, running heads, captions, web page headings, tags, hyperlinks, and metadata)
- Consistency of capitalization and hyphenation
- Correct word usage
- Repetitive or missing words
- Formatting issues with font size and style
- Consistency of layout
- Broken links
- American or Canadian English

PAYMENT
I require a 50% deposit upfront. The remainder is payable when I deliver the final project. You will receive an invoice upon completion. Payment can be made via PayPal or eTransfer.
THE PROCESS
1) Pre-Edit:
You send me your manuscript as a Word document or Google doc and tell me a little about your project such as your intended audience, if this is your first book, your word count, genre, time-frame, and the goal for your book. I review what you send me, and I’ll create a time line, fee, and contract based on word count and level of editing needed. You pay half of the deposit up-front.
2) Edit
I complete the edit in the time frame outlined in our contract. When I’m finished, I return the edited manuscript as a Word doc with tracked changes, a Word doc with comments only, a Style Sheet, and any notes or comments. You review the edits and answer queries and pay the remaining half of the invoice.
3) Post-edit Follow-Up (For Copy Editing & Proofreading only)
I complete a final pass with your updated changes and do a final proofread and review any formatting issues, missed typos, and any newly added content. You provide any follow-up questions requiring clarification within two weeks of return of your edit and pay the remaining half of the invoice.
*If your document requires a heavy second full pass, usually for bigger edits, discounted rates are available.

KIND WORDS
"I had an amazing experience working with Pia as my editor. Right away Pia created such an energy of safety around working with her that made me completely trust her with something so precious to me. I appreciated how Pia guided me to the best services she could provide me as my book was a poetry book. She acknowledged how "poetry is your own type of art" and therefore really allowed me to be myself with my book. She was there to support me when I was beginning to doubt myself. Pia caught mistakes I didn't see and helped my book reach a new level of perfection in my eyes. Pia is truly great at what she does and I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for an editor."
Julia Rzadkowska, Author of I Saw You In the Sunset

Pia was helpful, patient and pleasant to work with making the editing process fun. I learned a lot! Pia gives easy to understand feedback with a quick turnaround time. All in all it was great experience to work with Pia. I highly recommend her and am happy she is on the journey with me to get my book published."

I am lucky to have found Pia my first time around because I have now found an editor for life. I highly recommend her work and the ongoing support she shows her clients. She makes it super easy and encouraging to take on advise and picks up on the small things that make all the difference in the world. She not only helped my book but she also helped me as a writer.”

"Most of us would cringe at the sight of red ink on our painstakingly crafted work, but Pia’s approach to editing is to be kind and supportive of your success. She has an eagle eye for tiny mistakes that others would miss. She is a needle in a haystack herself. Anyone who creates written works of any kind should hire Pia to be your editor. You will be happy you did."
